Maldivian Internet Task Force

The Maldivian Internet Task Force (MITF) was a volunteer, non-profit group that worked as a catalyst for Maldivian internet and computer projects. Its members, many of them Maldivians living abroad, worked on Thaana software such as editors, transliteration engines and a Unicode encoder, ran the alt.culture.maldives newsgroup, and in 2001 moved their Thaana work into Project Thaana on SourceForge.

Because few Unicode Thaana fonts existed at the time, MITF made its own. Thaana Unicode Akeh, dated 2000, covers Latin-1 and Thaana with a few Arabic characters, and was released free of charge under the GNU Free Documentation License.
